This selection of the chapter is of Christian’s fame. As more famous people came to see Christian, he became more famous too. Christian’s best friend Unity was introduced. She was an actress who had a lioness some point in her life. While filming a movie in Rome Unity bought a lioness from the Rome Zoo, she named her Lola. Unity could no longer keep Lola, so they became apart from each other. Unity came to visit Christian every afternoon at the shop to play and enjoy his company. But Unity was no fool; she always came prepared with a thick coat, and a hat for protection. Christian respected Unity a lot; she always made sure she had control of situations, and if Christian was not cooperating she would stop playing with him until he did. Christian’s popularity grew when he was asked to be on Magpie, a children’s magazine program. The media always tried to portray Christian as a ferocious lion, John and Ace had to stop this.
While reading this; I was shocked by how well Unity handled Christian, and how obedient he was to her. She handled herself well and maintained control of all situations just as John and Ace did. When the media tried to portray Christian as a ferocious lion by taking pictures of his teeth and mouth wide open most of the time, it made me think of how the media manipulates the perceptions of the public. If I didn’t know Christian I would have thought he was a man eating lion and very aggressive, but he is not.
The author uses chronological order, he tells of events in the order that they happened.

Christian has grown up fast, and became super popular. Customers mostly come to look in awe at the lion living at the shop. There was an incident where Christian was walking across a table, and slipped; scratching up the table. John and Ace felt terrible about this situation; they called the woman who purchased the table and explained the story to her. She was perfectly fine with the incident that occurred; she admitted the only reason she visited the shop was to see Christian, and the table was an afterthought. She still bought the table with the scratches on it in remembrance of Christian. When Christian became a celebrity in the public’s eye; the police advised that he be kept in the basement because he could pose a threat to people, and they wouldn’t want any accidents. Now John and Ace had to drive Christian down to the park where he gets his exercise. They made sure when he was running around through the bushes stalking them; they did not stand in the middle of the field to be sure any animal instincts were not triggered.
I was shocked at how many precautions John and Ace took to keep Christian from realizing he was a lion. They took every move and meal into consideration; all the way down to the way they talked to him and what he can play with. They used psychology to their advantage.
The organizational pattern the author uses is chronological order. He tells of Christian’s day and the normal activities Christian does throughout the day.

Chapter two of the novel told of Christian’s life at the Sophistocat where John and Ace worked. Christian lived in the basement of the store where he was very happy. John and Ace raised Christian as if he were a child; he needed a lot of attention, love, discipline, and a proper diet. The section starts off in the car with the new family on their way home. Christian was nervous, and the two men didn’t know how to settle him down. Within the first week of staying at the shop Christian became comfortable, and he knew familiar faces-John and Ace. Christian acted just like a child; he loved to play and show himself off. Humans and lions have a stronger connection than you think; John and Ace always knew what Christian was up to because of his attitude and the look in his eyes. Christian had all of the freedom in the world, but he knew the difference between right and wrong. John and Ace made sure they never let Christian gain an alpha position as most lions do, because then he would know he was stronger than them and that would create chaos in the family.
While reading I thought it was very interesting how John and Ace kept Christian inferior to them. He is a lion he is suppose to be on top, and most reports say you cannot domesticate exotic animals because they have a killer instinct. These two men raised their lion in such a way that they still showed him all of the love in the world, but still remained in control and maintained discipline.
